\u2018after death a Tath\u0101gata does not exist,\u2019 the holy life cannot be lived<\/strong> \u2026  
If there is the view \u2018after death a Tath\u0101gata both exists and does not exist,\u2019 the holy life cannot be lived<\/strong>; and
if there is the view \u2018after death a Tath\u0101gata neither exists nor does not exist,\u2019 the holy life cannot be lived<\/strong>.

Whether there is the view \u2018after death a Tath\u0101gata both exists and does not exist\u2019 or the view \u2018after death a Tath\u0101gata neither exists nor does not exist,\u2019 there is birth, there is ageing, there is death, there are sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair, the destruction of which I prescribe here and now<\/strong>.

\u201cTherefore, M\u0101lunky\u0101putta, remember what I have left undeclared as undeclared, and remember what I have declared as declared. <\/em>And what have I left undeclared?
The world is eternal\u2019\u2014I have left undeclared.
\u2018The world is not eternal\u2019\u2014I have left undeclared.
\u2018The world is finite\u2019\u2014I have left undeclared.
\u2018The world is infinite\u2019\u2014I have left undeclared.
\u2018The soul is the same as the body\u2019\u2014I have left undeclared.
\u2018The soul is one thing and the body another\u2019\u2014I have left undeclared.
\u2018After death a Tath\u0101gata exists\u2019\u2014I have left undeclared<\/strong>.
\u2018After death a Tath\u0101gata does not exist\u2019\u2014I have left undeclared.<\/strong>
\u2018After death a Tath\u0101gata both exists and does not exist\u2019\u2014I have left undeclared.

Because it is unbeneficial, it does not belong to the fundamentals of the holy life, it does not lead to disenchantment, to dispassion, to cessation, to peace, to direct knowledge, to enlightenment, to Nibb\u0101na.
